Dr. Paul Ekman found that even when people try to hide their emotions, they cannot. Their true emotions are revealed within 1/125 of a second in the form of micro expressions. Dr. Ekman posits that there are seven universal global emotions: anger, fear, sadness, disgust, surprise, contempt, and happiness. These are revealed through our facial expressions. Learning to become aware of our facial expressions and to read the expressions of others can enhance relationships and build empathy.
