THE INFORMAL BUILDS PERFORMANCE; PERFORMANCE ENHANCES THE INFORMAL

Both the formal and informal organizations are needed to reach performance goals and both are strengthened by doing so. Managers can encourage this kind of mutual reinforcement in a number of ways:
1. Set group performance goals that require people to collaborate and often experience life in a real team. By working together, they get to know each other’s values, skills, aspirations, and feelings. Even after the collaborative groups disband, the relationships remain as an asset to be tapped into down the road.
