The Evolution of the Concept of Leadership

There are countless leadership models and studies—but as some observers claim, “there is no other topic on which so much has been written but so little said.”1 Scholars and practitioners offer a variety of interpretations and definitions of leadership. The Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) project proposes this one:

“The ability of individuals to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the success of the organization of which they are members.”2
