‘There are almost as many definitions of leadership as there are persons who have attempted to define the concept’, says leadership scholar Ralph Stogdill (1974, p. 259). For us, to lead means to navigate, to steer, to find good passage, and to go somewhere. It requires a journey and willing followers who take up their own leadership opportunities. Leaders make a difference, but whether that difference is positive depends on many factors.
