The Business Scorecard originates at the top of the business and cascades down and throughout the organization. Through this system everyone uses a common business language, and all teams create goals and objectives that tactically support the strategic goals and objectives of the organization. And everyone in the organization reviews the status of their goals every week.
But goals, by their nature, are precarious: Many things outside of our control can influence their achievement—the economy, suppliers, even the weather! (A blizzard, a hurricane, or even heavy rains and flooding can cause the best-planned schedules to go awry.) All of these things can cause goals to go unmet.
