carbon dioxide Odorless, colorless natural gas in the atmosphere and in water. The most serious greenhouse gas, because of the large amounts created by human activities. With air and moisture, CO2 forms carbonic acid, which can eat away at buildings; see Geoffrey C. Saign, Green Essentials (San Francisco: Mercury House, 1994).

CE mark An eco-label that certifies that a product conforms to standards concerning electrical interference, safety, design, materials, and other factors in addition to environmental ones.
