An introduction to Lean biomanufacturing
Abstract:
This chapter provides an introduction to Lean biomanufacturing, the concepts involved and why it has become so relevant to apply this type of philosophy. Basic principles are discussed and Lean tools are covered such as waste reduction, Poke Yoke, raw material control, creation of value, flow control, value stream mapping and pull strategies tools. Issues such as the following are discussed; cost of goods reduction, streamlining of processes and cycle time reduction, better use of plant resources, use of labor, integration of upstream and downstream processes configurations and layouts.
