The idea of risk conjures up feelings of danger of personal or organizational safety. While some people find flirting with danger exhilarating, everyone ultimately wants to avoid its repercussions. For IT, risk is the probability of not reliably delivering a product or service to the right people at the right time in a sufficiently safe and secure fashion that allows them to successfully pursue their target outcomes.
