adjustment layer A Premiere Pro media type that carries only effects. You can use an adjustment layer to quickly apply effects to a large number of clips at once simply by adding an adjustment layer to an upper sequence video track; its effects affect all clips on all lower tracks.
alpha channel A channel that carries transparency information for a video clip or still image. An alpha channel is stored with the media in addition to color channels such as RGB.
Apple Metal A computing architecture that allows compatible graphics hardware to accelerate calculations on Apple Mac computers.
aspect ratio The ratio of width to height of a video frame. Not to be confused with pixel aspect ratio.
