It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

One of the best features of working in a digital art program is the ability to work in layers.
Layers are like stacks of transparencies used for projection: every transparency carries a bit of text or an element of the image, and when all the transparencies are stacked on top of each other, they form the complete image.
