File Conversion Issues and Answers
Introduction
Because FileMaker Pro 7 and later files are structurally quite different from previous versions, converting files from the FMP5 format (usable with FMP6) cannot be done without some attention to detail. This chapter will address the process of converting, some problems you might run up against, and what to do to make the transition as smooth as possible. There were rarely issues when upgrading between earlier versions. The fact that you have to pay any attention to the conversion process might make you wonder if the upgrade would be worth the trouble. But after working for a few years with the great new tools available, I definitely think it’s worth it.
