Hardware sizing guidelines

The minimum hardware requirements are general guidelines, and you may want to exceed these minimums based on different factors. It may be useful to consider these factors when determining what CPU, memory, and storage device to use:

  • For the CPU, requirements increase for faster internet connections. Guidelines for the CPU and network cards can be found at the official pfSense site at http://pfsense.org/hardware/#requirements. The following general guidelines apply: the minimum hardware specifications (Intel/AMD CPU of 500 MHz or greater) are valid up to 20 Mbps.
