29THE MAXWELL EQUATIONS
In the past several chapters, we’ve introduced electric and magnetic fields and suggested that these fields are properly part of the description of the state of a physical system, at least one in which electric charge plays a role. What we have not yet done is shown how the electric and magnetic fields evolve in time. This chapter addresses that issue by introducing the Maxwell equations.
The Maxwell equations describe how electric and magnetic fields are created by charge and current, how the fields are related to each other, and how the fields evolve in time. Together with the Lorentz force law, the Maxwell equations ...
