Due to the advent of the internet, most social engineering attacks are being carried out online through emails and websites. The power of the phone has been discounted by today's social engineers. However, although many social engineers are flooding the internet with all sorts of social engineering attacks, there is a void in phone attacks. For a social engineer, the best time to use phones for attacks is today. Due to the impersonal nature of the internet, it may take more effort to convince a target to do something. However, a phone call gives a personal touch to a conversation and enables a social engineer to put the target under more undue pressure to give out sensitive information on the spot.
