The Shuriken Particle System Engine

Unity introduced the Shuriken Particle System Engine with version 3.5. While 3D models and animations must be created outside of Unity, the Shuriken particle engine enables you to make your own particle effects like fire, rain, and more. In this chapter you will learn how to create special effects with particle systems, and then move on to using them with scripts.

Particle systems are very visually dynamic. You definitely want to have the editor open to see the particles in action and how they change in response to the system’s module settings (Figure 8-1).
