Chapter 7. Creating the Fall Tour Tracker Base
In this chapter, we’ll look at a practical application of Linked records by creating a “Fall Tour Tracker” base. This chapter builds on the foundational knowledge we gained from Chapter 3, and we’ll explore how Linked records can help us efficiently manage our upcoming tour.
We’ll learn about creating relationships between tables we create—Cities, Venues, Lodging, Shows, and Regions—and see how these connections enable us to easily understand the intricacies of the tour. This base will serve as the foundation for future chapters as we explore more advanced functionality in Airtable.
Our fall tour will include many more stops than our summer tour, and we want to make our tour tracker a more efficient database by leveraging the Linked records feature in Airtable. Our first table in this new base is called Cities.
Let’s start by importing a CSV of the cities where we plan to have a concert on this tour. As seen in Figure 7-1, we’ve created a simple formula to combine the City and State fields in our City, State primary field:
