Chapter 12
In the last three chapters, I introduced the idea that engineering knowledge and resources are accessed through other people; that things happen in engineering through a social network. In this chapter, I explain how engineers make things happen when needed.
We learned about different kinds of knowledge in Chapter 10 and how acquiring knowledge is slow and susceptible to misunderstandings. Therefore, it is much faster and easier to arrange for people to collaborate and perform work that requires their specialised knowledge, skills, and resources rather than trying to learn for yourself. However, persuading busy people to do that, to make things happen when you need them is not easy.
