THE SUPERVISORY PROCESS has been a source of great pleasure for me. One challenge has been to try to translate into usable terms psychoanalytic conceptualizations that can be quite unapproachable for the novice and yet can also be extraordinarily constructive. This book had its origins in my desire to make these ideas more accessible to supervisees, who were so clearly enlivened when they began to really 'get' a concept that had previously eluded them. Their understanding was inevitably guided by their ability to connect those conceptualizations to their own experiences.
