Chapter 9. Interacting with Audio (Get Stuff Grooving to the Beat)

As you have been experimenting with MIDI in the previous chapter and listening to music, you probably found yourself twisting knobs or hitting keys in time with the beat. While live improvisation is fun, why not let Quartz Composer (QC) listen to the music and change the values for you?

This can be done simply with the Audio Input patch (see Figure 9.1). It allows you to use different parts of the music to control different parts of your compositions. From the simple peaks in volume as a song plays to selecting a specific part of the range from bass to treble, it’s all available to you to play and experiment with!
