In the days of the ancient Greeks, if not before, philosophers started thinking about, well, thinking. And yet it was several thousand years before we went beyond thought exercises to actual scientific study of our thinking. And now, we can think about our learning. This “meta-learning” or “learning to learn” can include instruction on effective learning, and self- and other evaluation of our learning. In fact, you shouldn’t leave it to chance that your learners know the most effective ways to learn. Building in learning-to-learn is an opportunity to improve your learners beyond just the focus of a course.
