Applying Layering

If you’ve ever constructed anything with Legos, you know that each block needs to be correctly sequenced to fit within the existing structure. If not, you soon will discover that the final product won’t look right, and in some cases, you can’t even continue building.

Layering is the brain’s cognitive version of working with Legos. It’s the optimal framing, structuring, sequencing, and repetition of concepts to ensure deep learning. People don’t learn in discrete and disjointed ways. Effective learning is actively constructed and built upon existing mental models (schemas).
