It’s graduation time, and you want to send that special person—a grandchild, niece, nephew, a little something to let them know you are thinking about them. So, you send them a graduation card with a check. You fill out the check, write a special message on the card, then enclose it in the envelope. Your address goes in the upper left-hand corner, the recipient’s name in the center, and a stamp in the upper right-hand corner that allowed the envelope to be transmitted through the U.S. Postal Service.

The idea behind Satoshi’s notion is just as simple, but with his method, there is no trusted third-party service. The currency arrives in short order, albeit without a card.
