Young animals have specific traits that can be very engaging—large eyes and ears, fluffy fur, oversized feet, and gangly limbs. To accurately represent a young animal, it’s important to observe the proportions of the head to the body when drawing, as these measurements are very different from an adult’s. The success of your portrait will depend on the accuracy of the proportions. In this drawing, I employ the technique of negative drawing, as discussed on page 10. I also introduce the technique of incising, which allows you to create fine white lines in a dark area.
