Information Literacy and Career Skills

Introduction

Generally speaking, academic librarians do not offer workshops on career planning, leaving it to their colleagues at the career center. Over the past 20 years, academic librarians have concentrated on developing a solid and sound foundation collaborating with teaching faculty in developing and embedding information literacy (IL) assignments. Librarians teach students IL skills such as finding references (citations) on a topic: this has been covered in detail in other chapters of this book. Traditional information research concentrates effort on finding authoritative peer-reviewed articles and evaluates them for relevance for the research task.
