Photography offers a wide variety of challenging career opportunities, especially for independent and motivated individuals. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are about 125,000 working photographers in the United States today with a median pay of about $32,000 per year. Employment of photographers is projected to grow 3 percent through 2024. Salaried jobs may be more difficult to find as more companies contract with freelancers rather than hire their own photographers.
