So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
As you have probably gathered, my goal in this book is not only to introduce you to every aspect of lighting, but to help you understand the “why” behind the “how.” The lighting director who understands the “why” will be able to do more creative work than someone who is simply working from formulas and diagrams. But I also realize that not everyone wants to become a master of the photon; many just want to be able to shoot competent video. In the workshops I have done across the country, I invariably have someone in attendance who just wants some diagrams and instructions on how to make them work.
