Filters have a regular place in creative lighting techniques. Here we shall discuss the various ways in which they allow us to compensate, control, and create.

Filter media

Color filters – or ‘gels’, as they are usually called – are available in several forms. Some are made to close color specifications while others are less precise, and intended for more general use.

Colored glass

Sheets of colored glass (surface coated or dyed) have a number of disadvantages. Not only is glass expensive and fragile but it offers only a limited color range and is not very adaptable.
