Chapter 6: MAP: Plot Your Photo Locations With GPS Coordinates
An exciting addition to Lightroom 4: you can use the all-new Map module to add and view geographic information about your photos.
Earlier versions of Lightroom could display this information in the Metadata panel if an image had gps data added by the camera or other software. You could view the image on a map in your browser by clicking next to the data. It wasn’t very intuitive and for most users was overlooked. Now you can easily tag, organize and view your images by location all within Lightroom.

The idea of having your photos tagged with gps location data opens a world of opportunities. You may remember where all of your photos have been taken now, but as your catalog grows and the years go by, those memories will fade. By tagging your photos soon after they are taken, this will be of no concern.
Having the ability to view your past images on a map can help immensely when planning future trips and shoots, as well as offering the ability to analyze how a certain location affected a shot. And on the Internet, it’s easier than ever to share the location where your photos were taken if they have gps data. Having complete, accurate location metadata in your photos can provide all these benefits and more.
