11.1. Basic Linux installation

Current Linux distributions all provide straightforward procedures for basic installation. You boot a CD-ROM or floppy disk, answer a few questions, and tell the installer which software packages to copy onto your hard drive. Most distributions also have good installation guides.

Enterprise versions of Red Hat include a printed installation manual. These can also be found on-line (with other Red Hat manuals) at www.redhat.com/docs/manuals.
