Given the prevalence and popularity of the Internet, it’s a safe bet to assume that you will want to connect your Linux system not only to a network but also to the largest network of all: the Internet. In this chapter, I discuss how to connect to the Internet in several ways. The method you select mostly depends on your location and how much you want to pay for Internet service.
Most options for connecting to the Internet involve using a special router to connect your Linux system to the Internet service provider (ISP). In these cases, you have to set up Ethernet networking on your Linux system. (I explain wired networking in Book 3, Chapter 2, and wireless networking in Book 3, Chapter 3.)
