Installing Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional
We will install a Windows 2000 Professional standalone and then join a domain. The act of joining a domain is reversible, so the initial installation will provide a base for both a standalone system and the joining of the domain. Finally, in this section we will demonstrate how to disconnect from the domain.
Windows XP differs in appearances and parts of the installation are automated. We will note the differences along the way as we install the Windows 2000 Professional. As of this writing, Windows XP Server and Advanced Server are far from release. Therefore, we won't be describing Windows XP servers.
