Physical Security
Physical security is the first level of defense in attaining host-level security. One hypothetical extreme would be a computer locked away in a secure room, out of reach of everybody. At the host security level, it would be as secure as the room, but quite useless. The other extreme would be an unguarded computer sitting on a public sidewalk.
Server machines, whether Windows servers or Linux servers, should be in rooms that have controlled access. Switches, hubs, and wire closets should be in locked rooms with similar access controls. Nobody should have access ...
