Adding a Red Hat Linux 7.1 Local Printer
Some Elsolutions developers will have local printers attached to machines that are booted to Linux at times. Recall from the Linux printing overview, earlier in this chapter, that a Linux printer is defined in the /etc/printcap file using a tag language that has a large degree of freedom. Linux servers usually don't run with GUIs, but it may be a good idea to have Gnome or KDE installed to run GUI-based administration tools. Init runlevel 3 will boot without the GUI, but it may still be run with a startx command. This allows an administrator to leverage the GUI to simplify print administration tasks.
