Linux Backup and Restore
Linux backup and restore operations are simple file copying operations. tar(1) and dump(8) are tools available in the base operating system that can do complete backup and restore operations. tar is the Tape Archive program originally written at the University of California at Berkeley (UCB). It has some capabilities of doing incremental backups, but it is mostly used for creating and updating archive files.
tar is useful for individuals. It provides incremental dump capabilities. However, most Elsolutions people will be using a Windows desktop.
