Most Linux distributions only install the bare minimum set of software by default and assume that the user will install additional software later. These days, installing software on Linux is very easy, thanks to package repositories and high-level package managers that can search, download, and install packages over the network. However, it’s important to understand how package files are organized internally and how package managers work since it helps administrators inspect packages, diagnose problems, and fix installation issues if they occur.
