Chapter 5. LISP Multicast Routing Fundamentals

In an enterprise or data center network environment, it is very common to have applications with multidestination traffic—that is, traffic destined to multiple end users/receivers, which might be geographically dispersed. Most of these multi-destination applications use multicast, and thus it is vital that the infrastructure be capable of carrying multicast. LISP infrastructure also provides support for multicast traffic, but there is a difference between how LISP handles unicast packets and how it handles multicast packets.

This chapter covers the following topics:

  • LISP multicast routing concepts

  • LISP multicast routing configuration and verification

  • Troubleshooting LISP multicast
