There is much that goes on in the modern organisational world that is a little mad. It’s crazy to think that one individual can change the DNA of a large organisation in months. It’s mad in workplace after workplace for directors to say they want a transforming hero irrespective of their business situation. It’s mad to focus so much attention on the individual leader as hero and then expect others to give of their best. It’s absurd to ask people to take responsibility, to seek to “empower” them while imposing endless measurement, auditing and control that signals loss of trust and denies employees the ability to use their own judgement.
