Multicasting
Multicast MAC addresses enable a single frame to be addressed to a group of stations. A multicast address also is called a group address, and stations that have been configured to receive traffic addressed to a particular group address are said to be members of a multicast group.
Multicast MAC addresses are used in two ways:
Standard multicast MAC addresses have been assigned to specific types of devices and or network roles. For example, a multicast sent to destination MAC address X'01-00-5E-00-00-02 is directed to every multicast-capable router on a LAN.
