Features of Classic Half-Duplex Token Ring

A classic Token Ring consists of a set of stations connected in a ring configuration. The stations share the bandwidth provided by the ring.

The physical cabling of a Token Ring looks like a ring of stars, as shown at the top of Figure 19.1. Batches of stations are cabled to concentrators in wiring closets, and the concentrators are connected to one another. The section of cable between a concentrator and a station is called a lobe. Trunk cables run between concentrators.
