LAN Emulation Servers

Three special emulation servers are used to help LAN Emulation clients mimic the behavior of connectionless LAN systems:

• The first (the configuration server) is like the principal of an elementary school, who assigns each incoming student to a classroom (an ELAN).

• The second (the LANE Server) is like the classroom teacher, who takes attendance and keeps track of everyone who is there. This teacher (like a LAN Emulation Server) has got everybody's number.

• The third (the broadcaster) is a gossip. Tell him something, and everybody else will know it immediately.
