The librarian’s role as innovator in transforming the OPAC
Abstract:
This chapter discusses the history and future of open source ILS as well as commercial ILS. In addition, it examines several innovative approaches prevailing among library professionals, namely, the BISAC, bookstore, and Pode approaches. A brave new world is emerging where the validity of the Dewey Decimal Classification system has been challenged, and where the web becomes our library catalog with the implementation of such management systems as OCLC’s WorldShare and Boopsie, and with the preparation for LC/PCC Phased Implementation of RDA in the United States and other major countries.
