Special Purpose Urban Authorities
Urban local governments mainly comprise municipal corporations and municipal councils to administer the local affairs and provide civic amenities for the well-being of the citizens of their respective areas. The former are constituted by the state governments concerned for bigger towns having a minimum population of three lakh and the latter for cities/towns that are not too big. These are periodically elected on the basis of adult franchise and perform the functions assigned to them under the statutes.
