This chapter covers the fire safety information relevant to three dwelling types. Topics covered in this chapter include: fire detection and fire alarm systems, means of escape, compartmentation, the building fabric and load-bearing elements. Building Control Bodies have varying views as to which of the technical solutions for Fire Safety described in this chapter they are willing to approve. It is therefore important to check fire safety issues with the particular building control provider at the earliest opportunity for any given project.
