Introduction

This chapter provides information on the need to prevent sound transmission through areas which include the existing structure, separating wall, new floor and new internal walls.

This is an area that requires care and attention to detail. Although not all the proposals within the Building Regulations are compulsory with regard to sound transmission, when you are creating a loft conversion the materials required to achieve the standards are normally already on site and, if they are installed correctly, the end result improves the living environment once the work is completed. Acoustic engineers are available and their expert advice should be sought if required.
