The logo recognition technology has been put into practice with a number of
interesting applications for commercial purposes and public administration.
Here we present three interesting cases, and these are GetFugu, Cyveillance’s
anti-Phishing and Internet brand monitoring solutions, the LogoTrace library,
and an example of vehicle logo recognition in intelligent transportation sys-
tems [163].
8.1 Mobile visual search with GetFugu
Logo recognition has been successfully adopted in mobile computing.
“GetFugu” is a mobile search platform which can cross carriers and
platforms (Android, iPhone and Blackberries). The GetFugu platform
integrates image recognition, voice recognition, and location recogni-
tion into a single customizable application (see http://www.getfugu.com
and http://mobilizedtv.com/getfugu-redefining-mobile-search). The GetFugu
platform enables visual search on mobile phones available worldwide.
Before the advent of tools like GetFugu, people could retrieve information
about a product or service highlighted using markers. But it has never been
easy to get into a brand in reality. GetFugu established a real solution to this
problem by recognizing actual logos rather than relying on markers. With the
functionality of vision recognition, GetFugu recognizes logos and products
through any mobile phone camera. The user only need point his/her phone
camera at a logo, and the phone will retrieve content from the brand owner.
GetFugu is designed to work with the GPS systems of today’s mobile phones
to deal with local content. The application will return relevant content based

8.2 Using logo recognition for anti-phishing and Internet
brand monitoring
Cyveillance is a leading provider of online risk monitoring and management
solutions. Cyveillance enabled logo recognition capability to its anti-phishing
and Internet brand monitoring solutions (see http://www.cyveillance.com).
This feature helps in detecting phishing sites, brand abuse and unwanted
brand associations. Cyveillance claimed that: “We’re excited to be adding im-
age recognition capabilities to our line of Internet risk monitoring and man-
agement solutions, especially a proven technology that has been so widely
adopted in law enforcement. It will provide a truly unique solution for fight-
ing phishing, fraud, and brand abuse.”
As defined in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing), phish-
