Structural Equation Modeling Approaches to Longitudinal Data

Introduction
In this chapter we describe some ways to approach the analysis of longitudinal data, which include path analytic, repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), and growth curve approaches, emphasizing structural equations modeling (SEM) approaches to analyzing these models. While many different analytic methods and frameworks appear in the developmental literature, one simple way to compare and contrast different models is to think of them as regression models in which a particular kind of variable is used to describe change or development.
