Think about the ways in which you try to protect yourself and others every day. You lock your doors. You don’t talk to suspicious-looking strangers on the street, and you teach your children not to talk to strangers. You create neighborhood watches. If you see somebody being mugged or attacked, you call the police and find help for the victim. If a small child is standing at a crosswalk on a busy street, you might offer to help that child cross safely.
