The email is totally unexpected. As you carefully read it, you can feel your heart racing. You are thrilled! You can't wait to tell your family, and in the meantime, you find yourself whispering to your colleagues—the ones you trust, “You won't believe this, but I just got this email, and…”

It's a new job offer, right? Actually, it's not. The email is from a recruiter. But it certainly has you revved up. Someone you never heard of explains he or she has been studying your qualifications (how nice) and would like to discuss a job opportunity that seems ideal for you (even nicer). Naturally, it pays more than your current job, has better benefits, and is with a great company the recruiter isn't allowed to name.
