The contextual/sociocultural approach includes the context of one’s life as having a
great deal of inuence on adult learning. The integrated approach considers a large
number of life inuences that can impact adult learning, to include issues identied
in the previous three approaches as well as other inuences, such as spirituality
(Baumgartner, 2001).
Adult learning may also be viewed from the perspective of how adults come to
know and understand certain concepts such as power. Kilgore (2001) reviewed stud-
