The contextual/sociocultural approach includes the context of one’s life as having a
great deal of inuence on adult learning. The integrated approach considers a large
number of life inuences that can impact adult learning, to include issues identied
in the previous three approaches as well as other inuences, such as spirituality
(Baumgartner, 2001).
Adult learning may also be viewed from the perspective of how adults come to
know and understand certain concepts such as power. Kilgore (2001) reviewed stud-
