Ideas for Further Reading

Plenty of great books are aimed at improving your work life. Here are a few I recommend. New ones are always arriving, and I have probably left off a few titles that should be here. But these should help to get you motivated.

  • The Big Shift: Navigating the New Stage Beyond Midlife by Marc Freedman (Public Affairs, 2012). An inspirational read to help you see why having a passion for your work can make a difference—not only in your life but in the world.
  • The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance—What Women Should Know by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman (Harper Business, 2014). Refreshing take on how to make the most of your skills and interests, and ways to ramp up your confidence to succeed in your work and more.
  • Create Your Future the Peter Drucker Way: Developing and Applying a Forward Focused Mindset by Bruce Rosenstein (McGraw-Hill, 2013). This book uses the wisdom of Peter Drucker to help you create professional success.
  • Drive: The Surprising Truth about What Motivates Us by Daniel Pink (Riverhead Books, 2009). Enough said. This book will get you pumped about work and life.
  • The Economy of You: Discover Your Inner Entrepreneur and Recession-Proof Your Life by Kimberly Palmer (AMACOM, 2014). I love this book about finding joy around the edges with side gigs.
